CBR is drinking homebrew and almost everyone listening is able to taste along thanks to the Sam Adams Longshot Homebrew Contest. Watch out for the Old Ale, that 10% ABV sneaks up on you.
Wow Greg, you sure are hard on Lost! I know it's fashionable to hate on it lately, but if you ignore the hype and just watch the show, it's fine. That said, I "acquire" the show, sans ads, and watch almost no "live TV" (and we're a way behind the US anyway) so I miss the hype and commentary. I think at worst, it's mediocre at times. I do agree that the writers are far less meticulous about tying up loose ends now, and that it is frustrating when there is pointless character development during a big "action" plot. That said, it's still better than most things on TV. Heroes is great, but it knows it. Lost is becoming the Twin Peaks for a new generation - odd and quirky, and without always providing answers to any of the strange questions raised. Maybe getting away from the hype will do it good? Oh, the three questions... I'd guess "Jack's Tattoo" (lame though that was), the fact that the Others go to the second Island just to work (ok, this is a bit straw-graspy, since I really can't think of another), and the one HUGE one... the "taken" Losties are OK, and are told to "watch". Remember those early theories about remote sensing? Maybe tied in with that, except they are physically present. They also seem to feel just fine about the Others, and are well off after their kidnapping. Note the kid with the teddybear, last seen (well, the teddybear suggests it is him) in rags as an "Other" during season 2? Maybe I'm taking that more seriously than it deserves...
As for Marmite... do try it. I was brought up on it, so never thought of it as "eeew, brewers yeast extract". It was just what went on my toast if I wasn't in the mood for peanut butter, honey, or jam. It provokes a love/hate reaction from most Kiwis (and Aussies, from those I know). I will try the Guinness one if I can find it, but it sounds like a gimmick, and I doubt it will taste any different.
If I'm hard on Lost, it's only because I like the show so much. I am usually a staunch defender of the show - for instance, I believe the writers when they say they have a plan for the show, and I am not clamoring for answers like some of the other fair-weather Lost fans.
However, when Lost makes a bad show - and last week's show about Jack was terrible - I'm going to come out and say it. And I also recognize that with Lost currently in ratings freefall, now is NOT the time to be doing one-off inconsequential and idiotic Jack-centered mindgame shows. It makes me miffed because doing shows like that is the road to cancellation, not entertainment. And more than naything I want the show to stick around (to come to its conclusion, not to stay around longer than it has to).
I'll bet you can't wait for the 40 minute back story on the guy who unlocks the cages. I'll be watching for some juicy tidbits about Nikki and Paolo. Ooh.
FYI: As I mentioned in the Lost thread, Jeff Loeb, who wrote for Lost for the first season and a half, is a executive producer/head writer on Heroes.
I replaced Lost with Battlestar Galactica (I know I'm late) on the SciFi Channel. Now that's a good little program.
I do love BSG, though I feel it suffers a bit from what most high-profile, arc-oriented shows do. The writers, in a perfect world, would like to tell a story. That story might only require 12 hours of screentime to tell properly, but the network demands consistent length seasons of up to 24 episodes. The result? Lots of "filler". This is what feels like happened to Lost, and it seems to be happening to BSG during this season. There have been some killer episodes, but then what? A trade union dispute? REALLY? OK, those who love the "gritty realism" are going to love that this ultra-realistic scenario is done. Don't get me wrong, it's done very well too. I just can't help but feel that too much time is spent on making us feel just how bad things are in the new BSG refugee society when most of us just want to know what the hell is going on with the Cylons! ;) It remains very well written though, filler eps and all.
I liked Lost this week. Hurley's back story was very "human", very funny, and reminded me of some of the season one character development stories, in that I actually cared. I thought the beginning with him talking to Libby would have been hard to play well, and could have been cliched and cheesy, but due to Jorge's acting, it almost brought a tear to my eye. Erm... I mean my wife's eye. *Greig loses a man card*.
There's nothing like hijacking a show comments thread to talk about TV shows! ;)
Great show guys, I am very interested in trying these beers soon.
FYI - Last year's hop henge was not a double IPA, it was just a regular IPA so you can't really compare them. I thoroughly enjoy this beer.
Hops: 2.5 pounds of Centennial, Cascade and Northern Brewer Hops per barrel + half pound per barrel for dry hopping.
Malts: Crystal, Pale and Carastan
Oh, and the story about the name is cool too - they actually replicated "Stone Henge" last year using hop bales. They had this on display in Bend. I don't think they did that again this year, but could be wrong.
I am still waiting to see the Longshot beers in my area... I keep thinking they'll show up.

Fair call
Yep, fair enough. I have the latest ep. just waiting to be watched... I hope it doesn't disappoint! :)

I'm near the end of the first season now. I sure hope it doesn't go the way of Lost.
