1/4 ain't bad I guess
Olde Ales = tasty ales and are always good to have on hand. I'll have to track some of these ones down ... haven't seen or tasted 'em. It's too bad that--as you mentioned--they are hard to find on taps. Our local cask festival last weekend included a cask of Adam and man, socks were blown off. The same festival last year included an "imperial white" which came out pretty damned good--in fact, I would say it was excellent. Not a whole lot of "extra" wit-beerness, more of an "extreme" wit-beer i.e., bigger alcohol and flavors but not necessarily "double." Dunno if that would be very good anyway ...
Interesting to hear Aaron's opinions on thing. Almost like an introductory session for him, eh?
In any case: for future reference Jeff? When in doubt, cut Greg. But seriously folks, editing's fine. I don't know abut other folks but it's rare that I'm going "wow, they didn't cut this?" (the dead air while RateBeer was being checked ...)
Cask Beer Festival
Ben...I was there on Saturday and the Adam did blow me away. I saved it for last and was glad I did. I also really liked the Flyers Bottleworks VIII Scotch ale and both the Diamond Knot offerings (XXX IPA and especially, Slane's Irish Ale). Are you going to be at Brouwer's for the Barleywine thing on Saturday?
I did enjoy the Slane's but
I did enjoy the Slane's but I wasn't as impressed with the XXX as I'd hoped to be. The Bottleworks VIII was awesome and I quite enjoyed Anacortes' Belgian--nice to see a sour from round here. Have to say I was slightly disappointed with the overall showing this go round. At least in prior festivals we had some exciting, different beers (Pepper IPA? Braveheart?). This time it was standard brewery fare with maybe a dry hop thrown in. I mean, was the Red Seal even casked? But we digress ...
The Hardliver Festival's always a good time but I think I'm gonna skip Saturday. Been a little too active of late on the beer scene. Should be a great time and I'll envy your tasting of the Big Nugget!
