Emerson's Pilsner

I'm catching up. Just listened to this show, and was pleased to hear you got to try the Pilsner. I'm sorry to hear it wasn't as good as it has been. It's a very different beer now, although probably a lot closer to the style than it used to be. It was a big floral, spicy hop beast, but now it's just a nice well balanced pilsner. Anyway, I've still failed to send you guys beer, so will try to get around to it some time in 2008. At least I need not send the Emerson's Pilsner. :)

Ah, that explains it...

The big floral hop beast was what I tasted when I tried it a few years back. I sent an email to the brewery asking about the hops used because of the distinctive hop aromas and flavours that I wasn't expecting in a Pilsner. The response was 100% NZ Saaz hops.

This why I also sent the Little Creatures Bright Ale, which is also hopped with NZ Saaz (among others). There was a definite link in flavour profile between the two beers. Pity I didn't get a chance to taste the current version of the Emerson's Pilsner before I dropped it of with Jeff. Other concern that I had was that it may not have travelled too well; it is hard to get and does not turn over very quickly in Australia. Might be worth sending a fresh bottle over to see if there is a difference.

Got BILK!!??

Good call.

We're off on our long awaited England/Belgium/Germany trip in mid March, so I might take some kiwi beer over with me, and mail it from the UK. I suspect it will be cheaper. Then I can send more. I priced sending four 500ml bottles of Emersons to Pittsburgh, and NZ Post said "sure, $95". I can't manage that until after the expensive trip I think! ;)

Oh, and we do have plenty of other good beers - Epic APA is tasting particularly good right now. Just in case people get the impression that we only have one brewery here.
