Thought I'd throw out some of the scuttlebutt on another Belgian-style effort by Deschutes. Info on their upcoming Dissident has been leaking out now and again. Sounds like they're looking at a fall '08 release now ...

They've brewed a Flanders but not a red. It's a brown with sour cherries. Sounds exciting to me. But, then again, I really enjoyed the 19th Anniversary when it was a bit fresher.
"Yuengling may not suck as much as we made it sound like it does."
Yeah, it sucks worse. I really hated Yuengling when I had it. I ended up not being able to finish it and drank water.
Jeff and Greg- Greg Koch has his own videoblog that he releases on Youtube that is kind of interesting to watch. The most ironic moment I saw on it though was they were doing a food pairing with Stone (Greg and their head brewer Mitch doing the pairing). Surprised they can still taste anything ;-). j/k Stone, I actually just bought 4 of you.
Also, attended a beer/wine tasting yesterday and Rogue was the real star. They brought 3 year old Old Crustacean and their Imperial Stout. Both were easily the best I've ever had of either style. If you guys can get your hands on them, give them a try (I just finished all the shows and don't remember if you've had them before, so apologies if you have).
Cheers guys and best of luck to the parents to be,
Yuengling was way the hell better than Lionshead (I think that was the name) and a couple other light lagers I can think of. Clearly it's not a beer I'd seek out (only had half a pint), but I went in with the lowest expectations and was honestly pleasantly surprised it wasn't nearly that bad. Seriously, there's flaws and corn, but it really wasn't THAT bad.
If the ongoing Stone fiasco didn't already prove it...
I think this proves we all have different tastes and different palates. I've never had the pleasure (displeasure?) of having lionshead. If I ever see it I'll have to choke one down to see what the deal is (a la Bud Light -- Suck one).
I just couldn't stomach the Yuengling, it was like carbonated water (which I really hate for whatever reason). Granted, it could've been muuuuuuch worse and there are way worse beers out there, but I had to throw my two cents in for the Yuengling.
Drinking a Breckenridge Remarkable Vanilla Porter, and it is quite awesome. Finally tried the Sierra Nevada and Anchor Porters last night and they were both pretty good, but the Sierra Nevada was just plain awesome...I still can't believe how good it was. Sorry...I'm ranting again. I just figured it was more constructive to prattle on about great beer rather than bad beer :-)
I also wanted to clarify my comments about the blind show.
I liked it quite a bit, especially since I'm the kind of guy that gets bored doing things the same way all the time. I was just trying to offer constructive and truthful criticism. I think once you guys get a few more under your belt they'll be awesome. I also like a lot of the ideas being kicked around about modifications to the format (why not try them all? muwahaha).
Yeah I must've missed that specific instant/episode where Greg said he didn't like the RIS. I just thought his hatred for Stone beers applied to the overly aggressive hopped ones. Oh well, to each their own huh?
There is a discussion about Anchor Bock on BA.

I haven't had it and I haven't looked for/seen it here in GA. But the consensus is that it isn't a bock. Someone in that thread even said they were told it's the Christmas Ale sans spices. So, the confusion about it is well-founded.
Greg, when I lived in Colorado back when "microbrewers" were allowed Sunday sales of "growler" beer, but by late in 1996 or early 1997 the liquor store owners got the state legislature to pass a law prohibiting sale of growler beer on Sundays. The liquor store owner coalition were not open that day of the week and thought it was unfair for microbrewers to have advantage over them. In reality, the liquor store owners never wanted to be open on Sundays and put a kabash on the legislation of opening the stores 7 days a week, this was tried at least twice when living out there for 20 years. BFD! Now that times are a bit harder economically, I guess they are a little more open to the idea of Sunday sales and this will allow for the growler hours on Sundays at craft brewers that are open that day of the week, namely brewpubs.
I liked the idea of that show. Kinda reminds me of the blind wine tasting group (Grapenuts) that I belonged to when living in Colorado close to 20 :( years ago. Typically the style was a "given" and each of the wines were brown-bagged to keep the anonymity. This kept the pre-conceived ideas about the wine tasted from entering in the decision of tasting it. We typically did a maximum of 8 - 10 wines. I would like to see a tasting of Pilsners, like the Presque Isle from Erie, Stoudt's, Penn Brewery's Penn Pils and the Kaiser Pils (cases only available at the brewery), Victory's Prima Pils and as one guy had mentioned maybe putting in a "ringer" with a macro or even the A-B equivalent into the fold to see how it ranks with the real big guys of craft brewing.
Craft Beer Radio is an Internet talk show about craft and micro brewed beers. The mission of the show is to spread the word of good beer. We introduce people to craft beer, and teach them about different beer styles, brewers who make them, and beer history. Whether you are new to craft beer or have been drinking it for more than 20 years we have something for you.

Stone song
Oh man... Added to my short list of projects: Greg's anti Stone theme song.
Bummer about the Cantillon... Great beer, everyone should be able to get it!
Good-luck for Jeff and Heather in the next days... Weeks... Hmmmm... How about next 2 decades? Yeah, that's how you have to think about it!
