Listener Sean sends us beers for a Massachusetts show and listener Anthony joins us again this year for another Thanksgiving weekend show. When listeners set out to showcase their state, they often do a fantastic job, and this show is no exception.

Glad you enjoyed it.
I did try to get a grouping together that was similar. There are a number of other MA beers that were worthy but I also tried to send things that the guys had not had before and it looks like I succeeded.
Great show guys, sorry I
Great show guys, sorry I caused a rant :-)
By the way it is J - D - Z - J
For the comments about rating the RIS's I did say "When you are that subjective with your ratings, which is brilliant, I think that you should allow for some wiggle room in the styles." So, I think your rating style is brilliant, I just felt like you were railing against some RIS's with great qualities just because they weren't as close to what you thought an RIS is (The Czar). I guess I just like to reward beers for what they do well, even if they are not the best in the bunch (unless it is just a dog of a beer). That is all fine, taste is completely subjective. I like that you guys rate beers based upon enjoyableness. What else matters more when drinking a beer? I think my other post was indeed a little out of character for myself, but the show irked me somewhat, by which I mean that you came off a lot more close-minded than usual. I am not sure why that is; plenty of other times you've had a beer that blew your socks off and then the rest for the night paled in comparison. Anyway, it was intended as an opinion and constructive criticism for how it came off on-air, which apparently was only an issue for a few of us.
To quote Jeff from this show "this didn't bring anything unique to the table that I haven't had in a pale ale" to justify rating the one beer down. That is sort of against your arguments on the RIS show. That is ok too. Variety is the spice of life.
As you said, good beer makes happier and better podcasters. Dude where's my post show?

Am I becoming the blow-hard
Am I becoming the blow-hard contrarian? Oh No!
I should of realized that you criticize because you love. And it sounds like I need to be more careful when choosing my words. You know because that is so easy with drinking several beers!
We did a double header, so no post show for 128. Actually we did the Beer Safari Christmas Video, 128 Preshow, 128, 129, and 129 post show that evening. It was a marathon of podcasting brilliance if I do say so myself.

"I should of realized that you criticize because you love."
All too true!
"And it sounds like I need to be more careful when choosing my words."
No need...then what would I criticize out of love?

A marathon indeed. I suppose forgiveness can be given for missing one post-show.
I must say that I have especially enjoyed having the guests lately.

Also, to further clarify, I
Also, to further clarify, I didn't have as much of a problem with it coming off as bashing. To that end, I just worry that it will discourage people from trying some beers that are great beers, but aren't to style. I took more of an issue with saying that it isn't what you are looking for in an Imperial Stout, which I viewed as sort of a weak cop-out for not liking a beer.
I thought of that today and thought it was more concise than previously stated...but after typing it I am not as sure.

And sorry about the JDZJ
And sorry about the JDZJ thing. JDJZ is a lot easier to say when you're drinking. :)
No problems. All our names
No problems. All our names are easier to say when we're drinking, whatever they are, Grog.
Or was it Greff and Jog? I can't remember...
Cheers! ;-)

Yes, I definitely criticize out of love. You're the only podcast I ever comment on, that should say it all :)
After listening to your discussion now, I probably shouldn't have said so much about style. In fact it was probably more like "this wasn't what I was looking for tonight" that I had a problem with. Even if it's a style show, it's bad to have expectations for a specific flavour or feeling for that tasting. Plus, most of all, I drink Nøgne Ø regularly and I *love* that imperial stout :)
