Biology

If you guys do a fermentation show I would recommend that you contact a biologist to skype with or maybe even learn what you are talking about; at least learn pronunciations. Greg, being a confrontational blowhard, exemplifies taking a little bit of knowledge and making it pretty dangerous. If you'd like; I'm a molecular biologist and I'd be happy to help.

I would love your help, any

I would love your help, any help I can get. What you heard was obviously the very beginnings of research, and there's no doubt that a molecular biologist will be able to give me a much more accurate and interesting script.

Who is being a confrontational blowhard?

WWJBrew,

Couldn't you have made the same point without being so confrontational yourself? It's pretty clear that Greg was not trying to be authoritative but was trying to communicate some information that he had recently researched. Perhaps he could have asked listeners who had more knowledge to chime in via the forum, but there was nothing in his comments that should have prompted such a venomous comment as yours.

I am struggling to determine whether your screen name is meant to be ironic, as it certainly doesn't befit the tone of your comments. Even when directed at someone who is an avowed non-believer.

a little terse

I probably came off a little terse, I didn't really mean to be. I suppose I could have softened the language. I really meant to simply say that if they want to do a whole fermentation show then they should do a lot of research to get it right. I was a little aggitated at poor understanding of the liver and fructose/sucrose/glucose but that wasn't there fault, it was third hand knowledge from another podcast's second hand knowledge. Was it "How stuff works"? I'll dig up what they had to say and dispute that, its not Jeff and Greg's fault they recieved a bad explaination from journalists.

I'm not even saying I'm the most qualified to help but I am in the business which means I have resources.

As far as the screen name goes, monks make dubbel, had Jesus been half the man reported to be then he would have made dubbel too.

Semantics games

I don't think Greg has ever had a vaccination, I don’t think anyone alive has had a vaccination. A vaccine specifically refers to an immunization against small pox using cow pox (variolæ vaccinæ; vacca being cow). People commonly mix-up vaccine and immunization; using vaccine when they mean immunization. It’s like saying apple every time you want to describe fruit. I had this great apple the other day, it was long and yellow and I had to peel it, ayup, great apple. You’ll notice that an MD always talks of immunization records while crazy people that are afraid of fake autism scares, as well as the general public, say vaccine.

I think that while vaccines

I think that while vaccines got their name from cows, it's now become a common term interchangeable with immunization. At least, the CDC and the WHO seem to think so.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sympathetic to the "correct" semantic usage of the word, but the language does evolve.

You are correct sir

You're right the language changes over time. Having listened to you rant and rave for a couple years I feel like you would have appretiated the semanitic arguement which is why I brought it up.

As an aside, nothing good has ever come from the WHO.
