Lost theories
I have got to say I think your flash sideways theories are way off.
I can't be sure because when I saw this it was on a friends DVD set bur I think this was last season. Daniel Farraday was talking about changing the past. He said something like when you throw a pebble in a river you get some ripples on the surface but nothing really changes. But if you throw in a big enough boulder the river splits for a short distance and when it converges what you have is a mixture of the two. This could have been in one of the extra scenes on the DVD but I can't be sure. This makes me think that the final reallity will be somewhere between the two.
